CD4046 Phase Locked Loop with VCO

Description

CD4046 is a  high speed silicon gate CMOS device. It is a phase locked loop circuit. This has a linear voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). It also has three  phase comparators (PC1, PC2 and PC3).

Features of CD4046 Includes;

• It has low power consumption.
• Has an excellent Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) linearity.
• Also has low frequency drift with supply voltage and temperature variations.
• It also has zero voltage offset due to operational amplifier buffering.
• It has an operating Temperature that Ranges between -40°C to +125°C.
• Its supply Voltage Ranges between 2V to 6V.
• To add on that, it has a choice of Three Phase Comparators. One; EXCLUSIVE OR. Secondly; Edge Triggered JK Flip Flop. Lastly, Edge Triggered RS Flip-Flop.

Applications include;

• It has an FM Modulation and Demodulation.
• It also has frequency Synthesis and Multiplication.
• Also used in Tone Decoding.
• To add on that, data Synchronization and Conditioning.
• Can also be used in Voltage to Frequency Conversion.
• Lastly, used in Motor-Speed Control.
